Be Involved
At C2, we encourage all of our students to take an active role in giving back to their communities. Yes, we know that doing good looks good on college applications, but that’s not the only reason why community involvement and service is important. A good service ethic—developed early and carried on to adulthood—is a valuable life skill and can impact lives in genuinely positive ways.
Deeply ingrained in the C2’s philosophy is the ideal that truly well-rounded and well-prepared students care about the world around them and engage in their community in interesting and creative ways.
Something small you can do now:
Visit FreeRice.com and test your verbal skills while “earning” free rice that will be distributed to some of the poorest countries on earth. A small act, no doubt, but an act nonetheless.
DoSomething.org provides the tools and resources to convert your ideas and energy into positive action. It is a one-stop shop for teenagers looking to make a contribution to improving the world. You can browse a menu of good causes and then find many ways for getting involved; from blogging to community action. Do Something even offers grants to kids with the initiative to start their own program.
Idealist.org is the international website for Action Without Borders that connects people, organizations, and resources to help build a world where all people can live free and dignified lives. The site has a list of organizations that were started by kids from four to eighteen. You can learn more about each of them, find volunteer opportunities in your zip code, and even use their action center to start your own projects.
